A semiotic analysis of the representation of “the uncanny” in the feature film «Midsommar» (2019)

The purpose of this article is to examine the visual and narrative elements
of the feature film Midsommar (2019) to understand how “the uncanny”
manifests within the film. The study is grounded in the theoretical
contributions of Sigmund Freud, Julia Kristeva, Roland Barthes, Algirdas
Julien Greimas, Francesco Casetti, Federico Di Chio, Umberto Eco,
and Eugenio Sulbarán. Based on the analysis of cinematographic and
filmic codes, it is concluded that “the uncanny” is constructed through
the subversion of traditional horror cinema codes and the representation
of the protagonist’s melancholic grief. Furthermore, the affective need
for belonging facilitates her integration into a ritual system sustained by
symbolic violence and collective sacrifice. The film articulates a critique
of contemporary emotional fragility and the dissolution of the subject’s
identity.

Comic, artificial intelligence, and mathematics: a strategy to improve reading and comprehension in primary education

Mathematics teaching remains rooted in traditional practices with limited
integration of reading skills. This study aims to analyze comics, created
through artificial intelligence, as a multimodal communication device
for the mediation of mathematical concepts and the development of
interpretative competencies in primary education students. It is grounded
in multimodality, encoding/decoding theory, and semiotic representations,
articulated with critical meaningful learning. Methodologically, a
qualitative approach with an action research design was adopted, using
participant observation and semi-structured interviews. The results show
that comics facilitate the decoding of concepts through the integration
of visual and textual elements, generating high engagement and diverse
levels of message interpretation. It is concluded that artificial intelligence
functioned as a means of content production, and comics as an effective
multimodal device for mediating mathematical knowledge.

Semiotic analysis of religious rites and supernatural beliefs in the community of Mara Norte (2010-2012)

The definition of rite has generally been associated with celebration and
ceremony when currently it is related to other elements culture, society,
ways of life and customs. For this reason, the fundamental objective of
the research was to analyze from a semiotic point of view the religious
rites and supernatural beliefs of the community of Mara Norte (2010-
2012). The theoretical foundation was supported by authors such as
Finol and Montilla (2004), Lotman (2022), Turner (1969), Magariños
de Morentin (2008). The methodology was descriptive-interpretive and
consisted of a series of interviews and information obtained from the
inhabitants of the community. As a result, the researchers established that
the most significant rites of the community are: identity Christian, the
conception, about death and supernatural events, rites of holy week. It
was established as a conclusion that the conception of rite was rescaled
to elements associated with the identity, culture and customs of a
community.

Inferential content analysis of the discourse in “International law facing a possible invasion of Venezuela,” by Victoria Dannemann

Este artículo examina el funcionamiento inferencial, crítico y
argumentativo del artículo de opinión “El derecho internacional ante
una posible invasión a Venezuela”, de Victoria Dannemann. Desde una
perspectiva cualitativa e interpretativa, analiza cómo el texto articula
sentido jurídico, memoria geopolítica y valoración ética para orientar
la lectura del conflicto. La investigación integra la clasificación de
inferencias propuesta por Cassany (2006), la distinción entre inferencias
locales y globales planteada por Mokhtari y Reichard (2002), y la
tipología de Peronard, Gómez, Parodi y Núñez (1997), con aportes del
análisis crítico del discurso, la teoría de la argumentación y la reflexión
sobre derecho internacional y poder. Se concluye que el discurso no solo
informa sobre una posible intervención, sino que construye una lectura
crítica de la legalidad internacional frente a relaciones asimétricas de
fuerza y frente a narrativas que buscan legitimar la excepción.
