Values Education and its Integration with Physical Education Discipline in
Secondary School Students
Abstract
Currently, the application of values in various daily activities is evidently deficient. Studies
reveal that physical education can provide significant contributions to strengthening values in
students, considering its recreational and friendly nature. The objective of this study is to analyze
values education and its integration with the physical education discipline among elementary and
secondary school students in Barranquilla, Colombia. The methodology used was quantitative,
with a non-experimental, transactional, and field design. The sample consisted of 9 teachers and
153 students from educational institutions in Barranquilla. The data collection technique and
instrument used was a survey and a 33-item questionnaire structured with a Likert-type scale
with 5 response options: always, almost always, sometimes, almost never, and never. The results
determined that participants attach importance to values and to physical, cognitive, and social
aspects, which is fundamental in planning activities to encourage values education among
students, supported by physical education. The conclusions are aimed at specifying how values-
based pedagogy can significantly strengthen ethical and moral principles in students, based on
the practice of physical, sports and recreational activities specific to this discipline.

Introducción
La sociedad viene enfrentando cambios substanciales que se reflejan en la cotidianidad y
el quehacer de las diversas instituciones que la conforman, tales como la familia y los centros
educativos. Según Fragoso y Canales (2009) las personas forman sus valores mediante el proceso
de la socialización, la cual se presenta en el seno de la familia y en la escuela. Una de las
características que se da en la familia es la carga afectiva con la que se transmiten las ideas,
saberes e identificación con el entorno, presentadas por los adultos; en consecuencia, los padres
deben realizar este proceso de forma consciente, para educar a sus hijos en valores que permitan
acercarse al mundo real.
Sin embargo, el convivir socialmente puede generar confrontaciones y crisis estructurales
en diversos aspectos; cambios que ocasionan desavenencias y malos entendidos entre quienes
