Abstract

In order to analyze the economic performance of simple radiological studies in a public hospital, a cross-sectional descriptive observational study was carried out during the period from May 2018 to May 2019. The population census was made up of 74,230 requests for simple radiological examina-tions of thorax, abdomen, spine, lower and upper limbs, performed in female and male patients aged (0 to 61 years) from the outpatient, emergency and other units of the IESS hospital in Manta, Ecua-dor. The results show the cost of the radiographs made with a definitive diagnosis of pathological and non-pathological patients according to the area of care. %) Based on these results, the high number of radiological studies or unnecessary tests carried out in the emergency areas 20%, external consul-tation 14% and other services 6% is revealed. It is concluded that these results could be used as trai-ning support in terms of cost-opportunity in order to raise awareness among physicians, showing what could reduce the high cost margin in non-patholo-gical diagnoses and thus save money that could be employed in the institution for the benefit of users and those who work providing the health service.
