Abstract

This paper presents the design o construction and evaluating semi-industrial equipment for applying diffusional coatings on small, irregularly shaped carbon steel pieces. Evaluation was performed by optimizing the zinc-coating application D process (“SherardizatioD";;), the us guaranteeing proper functioning of the equipment. The coatings were characterized by means of different techniques, such as metallographic analysis, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM-EDS/WDS) and roicro hardness tests. The results indicate that the equipment enables adequate application of the coatings under evaluation, meeting the requirements of Standard BS-4921.
