Artificial Intelligence (AI) Usage Policies

Cuestiones Políticas Journal

The journal Cuestiones Políticas recognizes the potential of Artificial Intelligence tools to assist in research and academic writing. However, to guarantee the integrity, transparency, and originality of published works, the following mandatory regulations are established for all authors:

1. Authorship and Responsibility

  • AI Cannot Be an Author: Under no circumstances will an AI tool (such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, etc.) be accepted as an author or co-author of a manuscript. Authorship implies legal and ethical responsibilities that only human beings can fulfill.

  • Full Responsibility: Authors are solely responsible for the content of their work, including the accuracy of data, the veracity of bibliographic references, and the absence of plagiarism. AI can generate incorrect or biased information ("hallucinations"); therefore, it is the author's duty to verify every piece of data.

2. Permissible Use of AI

The use of AI tools is permitted exclusively for:

  • Improving grammar, style, and language fluency.

  • Assisting in the translation of fragments, always under human review.

  • Organizing data structures or bibliographies, provided the original source is verified.

3. Critical Restrictions

  • Generation of Substantive Content: The use of AI is not permitted to write entire sections of analysis, interpretation of results, or original conclusions without predominant and declared human intervention.

  • Production of Images and Graphics: The use of images generated entirely by AI is not permitted if they represent scientific data. If AI is used to improve the resolution of an image, this must be disclosed.

4. Transparency and Mandatory Disclosure

Authors must explicitly declare the use of AI in their research process.

  • Where to declare: A section must be included at the end of the manuscript titled "Declaration of AI use in the preparation of the manuscript."

  • What to detail: The specific tool used (name and version) and its specific purpose must be specified.

Example declaration: "During the preparation of this work, the author used [Name of Tool/Model] for the purpose of [reason: e.g., improving English phrasing or correcting grammatical style]. Following this process, the author reviewed and edited the content, assuming full responsibility for the final result."

5. Detection and Ethics

  • Verification Protocols: The journal employs specialized software for the detection of AI-generated content and plagiarism.

  • Consequences of Omission: Failure to comply with this policy (failing to declare the use of AI) will be considered a breach of scientific ethics and may be grounds for immediate rejection of the manuscript or retraction if the article has already been published.
