En octubre de 1968 un pequeño grupo de profesores visionario de la joven Facultad de Agronomía liderizado por el Prof. Eovaldo Hernández fundaron y publicaron su primer número. La revista cumplió 50 años de publicación ininterrumpida en el año 2018 y como homenaje su Comité Editorial y el Consejo de la Facultad de Agronomía acordaron se publicase una serie de artículos de revisión por invitación de notorios académicos de nuestra facultad. El primero de ellos se publica en este número y es de la autoría de los destacados Profesores Eméritos de nuestra facultad, Dr. Nelson Huerta-Leidenz y la Dra. Nancy Jerez-Timaure, pioneros de la investigación sobre la calidad de la carne en Venezuela.
Muchos son los éxitos que la revista ha alcanzado en estos casi 52 años y aunque la crisis social que aqueja a los venezolanos también ha afectado a la revista, la mística en el trabajo y un alto sentido de pertenencia del personal de Revista de la Facultad de Agronomía que fieles al legado de nuestro ilustre rector Jesús Enrique Lossada no se ha amilanado, han permitido que hoy en día nuestra revista sea un referente dentro las publicaciones nacionales y latinoamericanas.
Editor’s Note
In October 1968 a small group of visionary professors from the young Faculty of Agronomy led by Prof. Eovaldo Hernández founded and published the first issue of the Journal of the Faculty of Agronomy of the University of Zulia. The journal celebrated its 50th anniversary of uninterrupted publication in 2018 and as a tribute its Editorial Committee and the Council of the Faculty of Agronomy agreed to publish a series of review articles by invitation of well-known academics of our faculty. The first of these is published in this issue and is by the outstanding Emeritus Professors of our faculty, Dr. Nelson Huerta-Leidenz and Dr. Nancy Jerez-Timaure, pioneers of research on meat quality in Venezuela.
Many are the successes that the magazine has achieved in these almost 52 years and although the social crisis that afflicts the Venezuelans has also affected the magazine, the mystique in the work and a high sense of belonging of the staff of the Magazine of the Faculty of Agronomy that faithful to the legacy of our illustrious rector Jesus Enrique Lossada have allowed that today our magazine is a reference within the national and Latin American publications.
