Abstract

Six new species of Paracymus included in a new subgenus Escotadus subgen. nov., are described: Paracymus (Escotadus) burronegrus sp. nov., P. (E.) benettii sp. nov., P. (E.) pemonus sp. nov., P. (E.) samariapus sp. nov., P. (E.) yanomami sp. nov., and P. (E.) zulianus sp. nov. The new subgenus Escotadus subgen. nov., is created based on a synapomorphic character found in the apex of the posterior margin of the abdominal ventritus V, a neckline or grimace, which is present in the six species described herein, along with six other species registered by García y Jiménez-Ramos (2020) from eastern Venezuela: Paracymus acostae, P. aitanae, P. balkei, P. marinus, P. ramosae and P. solarys. All species are from various regions of Venezuela, collected using diverse capture devices. Habitus and diagnostic characters such as antennal sclerites, palps, and chin are illustrated; ventral sclerites such as the proventritus, the mesoventral process and the V abdominal ventritus; genital sclerites in males and some females. A map is included with the distribution of the species of the subgenus Escotadussubgen. nov., in Venezuela.
