Abstract

A new genus of Neotropical aquatic beetle, Suretonorpus, is described with five species: Suretonorpus juangarciai sp. n., S. llanerus sp. n., S. obscurus sp. n., S. samanus sp. n. and S. urapeus sp. n. The new taxon has been included in the Pronoterini tribe, due to the pseudo-triangular character of the protibia with two spurs on the apicodorsal margin, which represents a break with the considered monotype of the tribe. Habitus, cephalic sclerites such as palps and antennae; ventral sclera as proventritus and proventral process; sclerites of locomotion (legs) and genitalia of both sexes are illustrated. The main characters of the new genus are evidenced in the rounded posterior margin of the protibia, the lateral marginal groove of the pronotum and the dentate laterodorsal margin of the gonocoxas (in the female). A key is constructed that separates it from the in the tribe and from the rest of the Neotropical genera of the family, a key that separates the species and a distribution map in Venezuela.
