The REVISTA CIENTIFICA of the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences of the University of Zulia is an international journal that receives works for publication in the forms of original unpublished scientific articles, technical notes, case reports, letters to the editor and bibliographic reviews. The journal is aimed at researchers, teachers and/or authors interested in publishing or disseminating their work. Scientific contributions or collaborations are accepted in Spanish and English; has a CONTINUOUS frequency. 

The articles should address aspects related to the areas of: veterinary medicine, animal production, agricultural economics, animal reproduction, public health linked to veterinary sciences (zoonoses), food technology and wildlife. The SCIENTIFIC JOURNAL emphasizes the publication of scientific information generated in tropical and subtropical zones, or of tropical applicability.

The content of articles should represent a significant contribution to the body of scientific knowledge.

All our content is freely accessible. The articles are indexed, deposited and registered in various sources, repositories and databases with the purpose of promoting and giving greater visibility to their contents. Our articles are subject to review under the double-blind review system.

Focus, Scope and Objectives

Journal Mission

The REVISTA CIENTIFICA de la Facultad de Ciencias Veterinarias from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universidad del Zulia is an international journal that receives submissions for publication in the form of original and unpublished manuscripts, technical notes, clinical case, letters to the editor, and review articles (Review). Exceptions to the unpublished condition include the complete or partial publication in scientific meeting proceedings with limited circulation. Any other circumstance should be explained to the Editorial office at the moment of submission.

For publications such as scientific papers, technical notes and letters to the editor are accepted as both languages Spanish and English. Literature reviews will be written in English and no more than two authors are accepted; whose must have scientific expertise in the proposed topic. All submissions will be reviewed in their form and content by 3 recognized experts using the method of double blind.

Manuscripts must deal with aspects related to the fields of veterinary clinical sciences, animal production and agricultural economics, public health related to veterinary sciences, food technology related to animal products and wild life. Acceptance of manuscripts dealing with any other type of related topics will be discussed by the Editorial Board. Although not restricted to, the REVISTA CIENTIFICA de la Facultad de Ciencias Veterinarias emphasizes on publishing scientific information generated from tropical and subtropical zones or with tropical applicability. The content of manuscripts should add significant contribution to the body of scientific knowledge and must meet the following requirements:

The REVISTA CIENTIFICA de la Facultad de Ciencias Veterinarias of the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences is a publication sponsored by the Research Division of the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences of the University of Zulia.

Its objectives include:

  • Publish articles of high impact in the areas of Veterinary Science.
  • Disseminate scientific production in Veterinary Sciences, aimed at an international community of researchers interested in topics in the tropical area.
  • Facilitate the presentation, discussion and confrontation of ideas and scientific advances...

The REVISTA CIENTIFICA de la Facultad de Ciencias Veterinarias of the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences of the University of Zulia, publishes under the modality of CONTINUOUS PUBLICATION. Since 2022 year.

Thematic Coverage

The REVISTA CIENTIFICA de la Facultad de Ciencias Veterinarias. It publishes articles that address aspects related to the areas of: veterinary medicine, animal production, agricultural economics, animal reproduction, public health linked to veterinary sciences (zoonosis), food technology, and wildlife.

Target audience

All researchers and academics at the international level who are directly or indirectly engaged in the study of these issues. It is an open access journal that can be consulted by anyone.

Plagiarism detection policies

To determine duplicate content in the articles submitted for our consideration, we use three different tools: www.plag.eswww.duplichecker.com/es and www.turnitin.com/es

At first, the article is submitted to verification with www.plag.es, if the report reports a high or very high risk of plagiarism, a detailed review is carried out in blocks of a thousand words using the Dupli checker. If after these procedures there are still reasonable doubts about the partial presence of plagiarism in the article, it is also submitted to turnitin, which is a paid software.

The plagiarism control procedure of Political Questions includes the following stages:

  • In the instructions to the authors, the requirement of originality of the works presented is manifest.
  • At the same time, the presentation of unpublished works is an exclusive requirement for acceptance of originals.
  • Authors are also required to explicitly mention the sources in all citations, in accordance with the rules of the journal.
  • Once received, the works go through the control of the anti-plagiarism software in three phases with the software 1) plag.es, 2) Dupli checker and 3) Turnitin.
  • In case of detecting any trace of plagiarism or self-plagiarism, the articles will be rejected and the author will be notified.

Evaluation Process

Evaluation Process

Once the article is received by the editor/editorial committee the author (s) are notified to monitor the process on the Three (3) steps: revision, evaluation, and publication.

Step 1

Pre-revision or internal revision (1 week span) quotations and references, thematic, compatibility of the article within different sections of the magazine, as well as plagiarism verification through a web software. The author (s) will be notified of either acceptance or rejection or the article.

Step 2

Exterior revision, 4 weeks span through 2 peers (national or international) from outside of the University of Zulia. Evaluators under the double-blind modality procedure and in case of disagreement a third evaluator will be assigned to settle the disagreement.  These specialists will make observations and issue a concept in terms of: (a) Publishable without modifications, (b) Publishable with Slight Modifications, (c) Publishable with Important Modifications Observations (d) Not Publishable.

In the arbitration process the criteria’s taken into account are: a) evidence of knowledge, b) scientific rigor c) theoretical or methodical foundation d) topicality or relevance of sources e) contributions to existing knowledge, and f) quality of writing and grammar.

The format used by reviewers to evaluate articles includes two main parameters: Forma presentation criteria and Content criteria which will be on a scale that expresses the values as Excellent, Good, Regular, or Deficient.

Formal Presentation Criteria: 1) originality, relevance of the title 2) clarity and consistency 3) adequate preparation of the summary (methodology, objectivity, results, keywords 4) Internal organization of the text.

Content Criteria:1) domain of evidence of knowledge 2) scientific rigor  3) theoretical and methodological fundamentation 4) Updated of consulting resources 5) contributions to existing knowledge.

Once the article has been arbitrated, the concept of publication will be made known via email to the contact author (s). If adjustments to the article (Accepted upon compliance with corrections) are required, the authors will have a maximum period of 10 days to make the adjustments (this period is part of the 4 weeks phase 2) and must send a new version of the document and a letter responding to each of the suggestions/observations issued by the evaluators. It is the responsibility of the authors to comply with all suggestions and recommendations submitted; if there are disagreements, they should inform and argue their position the editor decides whether the modified article is sent back to the same assigned evaluator pairs to request its final endorsement. Received comments, concepts or corrections, the editor together with the Editorial Committee, makes the final decision of Accepted for publication or Not Accepted as the case may be.

If the article is Accepted for publication (without minor corrections or corrections) the authors must comply with the delivery of: (a) a letter informing that the suggestions reported by the evaluators were included if they exist; (b) the final versions if the article in Spanish or English, depending on the authors preference; (c) an authorization to the editorial committee of the journal for the reproduction of text with signatures of the authors; and (d) the authors identification data for the respective journal database (ORCID ID code, full names and email).

In any case, the publisher and the Editorial Committee reserve the right to accept or reject the articles. Rejected articles will be notified to their authors via email. Acceptance of the article for publication implies the transfer of the rights of reproduction and dissemination by any means to the University of Zulia as the publishing institution of the journal.

PHASE 3: Once the article has been accepted, the final editing and layout process begins, in three (3) weeks, work that is carried out with the support of the Library Services of the University of Zulia (SERBILUZ), through the  following process: a) referral of the publisher of the accepted material for publication; b) correction of style in Spanish and/ or English language when required; c) sending to the publisher of the material with corrections to be sent to the authors; d) referral to the publisher by the authors of the verified material and with suggestions, so that the publisher refers it back to the publisher; e) diagrams, layout of the material that is also sent to the authors through the publisher; assignment of DOI, and; f) publication of the material electronic format on the RevicyhLUZ platform. 

Interoperability protocols

The REVISTA CIENTIFICA de la Facultad de Ciencias Veterinarias incorporates interoperability protocols that allow the journal to be collected by other content distribution systems. It supports this process through the OAI-PMH protocol (Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting)

Digital preservation policy

The REVISTA CIENTIFICA de la Facultad de Ciencias Veterinarias has a digital preservation policy to make backup copies of all its files in the short, medium and long term.

Short term

Backups are made periodically on an external SSD hard drive and in the cloud on the Dropbox service, which allows automatic backup of all the magazine's files.

Medium term

Backup copies of the integrity of the OJS system and the content of the magazine are made from the cPanel of the hosting service

Long term

The content of the journal is automatically stored in the following digital preservation systems: The PKP Preservation Network, which provides free preservation services for any OJS journal that meets the basic criteria. LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) that guarantees the journal a permanent and safe file. LOCKSS is an open source program developed by the Stanford University Library that enables libraries to curate selected web journals by regularly searching registered journals to collect newly published content and archive it.

CLOCKSS Open Journal Systems also supports the CLOCKSS (Controlled Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) system to ensure a permanent and secure archive for the journal. CLOCKSS is based on the open source software LOCKSS developed at the Stanford University Library, which enables libraries to curate select web journals by regularly checking registered journal websites for recently published content and archiving it.

The REVISTA CIENTIFICA de la Facultad de Ciencias Veterinarias uses DOI (Digital Object Identifier) ​​as a Persistent Digital Identifier for the standardization and normalization of electronic publications.

Unique and Permanent Identification for Authors

ORCID (Open Research and Contributor ID)

The REVISTA CIENTIFICA de la Facultad de Ciencias Veterinarias uses ORCID (Open Research and Contributor ID) which is a unique identifier whose main purpose is to provide researchers with a persistent and unambiguous author code that clearly distinguishes their scientific production and avoids confusion related to scientific authorship and the existence of matching or similar personal names. The ORCID ID of a researcher will always be the same, thus overcoming linguistic aspects, institutional affiliation and incidents related to the standardization of the scientific signature.

Open Access Policy and Reuse

 Unanimously, the REVISTA CIENTIFICA de la Facultad de Ciencias Veterinarias editorial team voluntarily subscribes to the postulates of the Berlin Declaration. Consequently, all the contents of this scientific publication are and will be open access to the international  scientific community and the general public,  with  the added that they can increase the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of humanity as a whole and serve, at the same time,  to democratize access to knowledge and  erode the material and symbolic barriers that  historically hinder the acquisition of  important information, not only to improve the human condition, but also for the  management and resolution of multidimensional problems that affect the development of people and communities.

The authors retain copyright and grant the journal the right to be the first publication where the article is submitted, which is published under a Creative Commons Attribution License, which allows others to share the work prior to acknowledgment of authorship. work and the initial publication in this magazine.

Authors may separately establish additional agreements for the non-exclusive distribution of the version of the work published in the journal (for example, placing it in an institutional repository or publishing it in a book), with an acknowledgment of its initial publication in this journal.

Cost per processing

The REVISTA CIENTIFICA de la Facultad de Ciencias Veterinarias is financed with public resources and adheres to the philosophy of open access; therefore, its content has no commercial purposes, which is always guaranteed by its editor and by its editorial committee. The journal does not havet item processing charges. However, to maintain periodicity and support editorial and management processes, we are open and receptive to donations and voluntary contributions from networks, institutions and authors.
