When to suspect celiac disease and what organs does it affect?
Resumen
La enfermedad celiaca (EC) es una condición autoinmune con base genética, ya que se desarrolla en personas susceptible en respuesta a la exposición del gluten. La prevalencia mundial se estima de 1 persona por cada 100, que puede variar según la zona geográfica. Se presenta con manifestaciones intestinales y extraintestinales, que no son específicas y requiere un alto grado de sospecha. Además, puede estar asociada a otras enfermedades autoinmune. Los síntomas clásicos se deben a la malabsorción intestinal, con buena respuesta a la dieta libre de gluten. El espectro clínico extradigestivo es muy amplio con afección hematológica, neurológica, dermatológica, oral, dentaria, hepática entre otras. Se debe conocer que Diabetes mellitus tipo 1 y Tiroiditis autoinmune son patologías asociadas, donde el diagnóstico es crucial.
