Abstract

Barrett's esophagus is a change in the distal esophageal mucosal lining, whereby metaplastic columnar epithelium replaces squamous epithelium of the esophagus. This change represents a pre-malignant mucosal transformation which has a known association with the development of esophageal adenocarcinoma. Endoscopic eradication therapy has become a standard of care for treatment of dysplastic Barrett's esophagus and early Barrett's neoplasia. Endoscopy management of Barrett's Esofagus mainly consists of removal of any visible lesions via endoscopic resection and eradication of all remaining Barrett's mucosa using endoscopic ablation.
