COVID-19 and HIV/AIDS: clinical and epidemiological implications. Systematic Review
Abstract
Research is important due to the global impact of the syndemic and provides information of great use in health. The objective was to describe about COVID-19 and HIV/AIDS; clinical and epidemiological implications. A systematic review of articles in medical and scientific databases was carried out, the inclusion criteria were articles published within the years 2015-2020, exclusion criteria were previous articles from 2015 and those that did not present information on this topic. The methodology was of documentary design, informative type. The results obtained from 15 articles from different countries, when referring to these two types of viral diseases are very different, in terms of transmission, symptoms, diagnoses, prevention. They have certain similarities in comorbidities and antiretroviral treatment, so that patients with HIV/AIDS have a lower risk of contracting COVID-19 infection, which indicates that the immune system plays a very important role, being the main factor to contract this disease or not. The follow-up of the studies indicates that compromised immunity could be the reason why HIV/AIDS patients do not have certain inflammatory changes and much fewer clinical symptoms, which is why induced antiretroviral treatment supports them
