Malaria por plasmodium falciparum
Abstract
Se estudiaron, en forma prospectiva, 44 pacientes con malaria por P. falci· parum hospitalizados en los Servicios de Enfermedades Infecciosas y de Pediatría Médica Infecciosa del Hospital Universitario de Caracas, enfatizando la importancia de los diagnósticos epidemiológicos, clínico y de certeza, para el diagnóstico adecuado de la malaria. Se evaluaron las diferentes drogas antimaláricas utilizadas, tanto para el tratamiento supresivo como para el curativo. Se registraron las respuestas terapéuticas de los pacientes y su evolución clínica. Finalmente, se sugieren medidas terapéuticas y profilácticas para pacientes provenientes de áreas endémicas de malaria y para pacientes en quienes se sospeche malaria como infección hospitalaria.
