Giardiasis. Prevalencia en pacientes del Departamento de Pediatría del Hospital Universitario de Maracaibo
Abstract
Se estudiaron 400 muestras de heces por el método Directo y Ritchie provenientes de pacientes de ambos sexos del Departamento de Pediatría del Hospital Universitario de Maracaibo, durante el lapso de enero-junio de 1984 con la finalidad de determinar la importancia de la prevalencia de Giardia lamblia en pacientes pediátricos; y si esta prevalencia guarda relación significante con la edad en el grupo de pacientes estudiados. Las observaciones finales permitieron concluir que los pacientes en la edad pre-escolar fueron los más afectados con una prevalencia para Giardia lamblia de 42.85%; r en general para el grupo estudiado la prevalencia fue de 24.50%. Por otro lado el análisis estadístico demostró una relación significante entre la Giardiasis y la edad en pacientes menores de 12 años.
