Abstract
Adolescence, a stage marked by physical and psychological changes, presents: increased sexual activity of adolescents, lack of sexual education, self-conscious when requesting services, little use of expensive and difficult-to-acquire contraceptives. Descriptive research, with a non-experimental, prospective and cross-sectional design, sampled 72 adolescents. Instrument application designed, adapted and selected for descriptive and inferential analysis. The statistical package SPSS Version 23.0 was used. Results: Sociodemographic characteristics: Age17-19 years 36%. Predominant sex: female 53%. Academic level: Basic 67%. Initiation of sexual relations: 10-12 years 5% and 15-16 years 54%. Knowledge of contraceptive use: Good 30.5%, Regular 16.7%, Poor 52.8%, Knowledge to avoid early pregnancy: Good 19.4%, Regular 36.1%, Poor 44.5%. Pearson’s correlation was applied to measure the association of the two variables, it showed a strong and positive relationship between the use of contraceptives and early pregnancy (r = 0.868, p = 0.00). Conclusions: It was shown that the contraceptive most used by adolescents in the Nested Health Unit is the condom. The beginning of sexual relations shows that adolescents at that age do not have the knowledge or guidance to assume that responsibility.
