Abstract

When the Government of Ecuador decreed a state of exception due to the pandemic, the University of Guayaquil developed virtual platforms in online mode to continue the studies. As a teacher, I detected a certain level of disinterest in virtual classes, little active participation and lack of motivation in certain students, which led me to carry out a sample of students in order to measure levels of depression in them as a result of confinement by Covid-19. A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out in a sample of fifth-semester students, sociodemographic information was obtained from them and the Beck Depression Test (BDI) v.21 was applied to them. 135 students were included, 58 men and 77 women who were carrying out their studies in confinement, of which 35% presented mild mood disturbance, 13% intermittent depression, 13% moderate depression and 7% severe depression 68% of the sample presented some level of depression, from mild mood disturbance to severe depression, which is worrying and I hope that the University authorities will take these results into consideration.
