Freedom to be inside or outside the norm

Abstract

Since time immemorial, societies have built a framework of written, customary or moral rules whose ultimate purpose is to guarantee
harmonious coexistence and collective well-being. These norms are born from the explicit or tacit consensus of those who recognize the need to
modulate our individual impulses in favor of order and justice. However, in recent decades we have witnessed, almost without noticing it, a growing detachment
from that original sense of obedience: understood not as servility, but as a conscious act of recognition of the other and the common good. By relegating it to the realm of the obsolete or, even worse, the authoritarian, we run the risk of fraying the fabric that binds us together as a community.
