Teaching Staff Leadership at the Faculty of Agronomy, Central University of Venezuela
Abstract
In several universities in Venezuela, the operating conditions for carrying out teaching, research, and extension activities are minimal due to the rolled-over budget in place since 2007 and the country's inflation. In this context, university functioning is approached from a management perspective, conceived as a managerial function of processes and resources aimed at achieving objectives through the exercise of comprehensive leadership. The present work aims to establish the characteristics and trends of leadership at the managerial, support, and operational levels within the Faculty of Agronomy at the Central University of Venezuela. The methodology was based on a quantitative approach, with a descriptive cross-sectional field design. The unit of analysis was the Faculty of Agronomy, and the population consisted of 22 faculty members performing roles at the managerial, support, and operational levels. Data were collected using the survey technique, with a questionnaire as the instrument, and were analyzed using Microsoft Excel (2016) and INFOSTAT VP/2018. The conclusions highlight that the leader is capable of influencing others to achieve goals and holds the authority conferred by their position; leadership and management are different, since a leader does not always have the capacity to perform an administrative role; the functions of the position are carried out with effort, and the expected outcomes in the work plan are not always achieved. The predominant current was visionary leadership.
