Sobre un foco urbano de Trypanosoma Cruzi (Chagas, 1909) en la ciudad de Maracaibo, Venezuela
Abstract
400 ejemplares de Triatoma maculata fueron capturados en el barrio Cerros de Marin en plena zona urbana de la ciudad de Maracaibo; 12” de ellos presentaron en su contenido intestinal formas evolutivas de un tripanosoma semejante a Trypanosoma cruzi. Material positivo fue inoculado intraperitonea1mente a 20 ratones blancos (Mus musculus), adquiriendo todos la infección; 12 murieron antes del segundo mes y 8 pasaron a la fase crónica. Los ratones muertos presentaron en su totalidad lesiones cardiacas con abundantes formas amastigotas y los ratones que sobrevivieron adquirieron resistencia contra inoculaciones posteriores con una cepa virulenta de origen humano. El parásito creció en medios de cultivo a base de agarsangre (N.N.N y Davis). Todas estas observaciones más los resultados de los datos biométricos permiten identificar al tripasonoma aislado como Trypanosoma cruzi; de virulencia relativamente alta y considerar a Cerros de Marín como un foco urbano de Trypanosoma cruzi.
