SERUM LEVELS OF THYROID HORMONES AND CONSUMPTION OF BOCIGENIC OF BOCIGEN CONSUMPTION IN PATIENTS OF THE ALFREDO NOBOA MONTENEGRO HOSPITAL MONTENEGRO HOSPITAL IN THE CITY OF GUARANDA-ECUADOR
Abstract
Goitrogens are natural substances that are found in foods for daily consumption and that can interfere with the function of the thyroid gland, in the production of hormones, therefore in maintaining the homeostasis of the human body. Therefore, it is intended to correlate the levels of Thyroid Hormo- nes and the consumption of goitrogenic foods. This research was descriptive, correlational, non-expe- rimental, and cross-sectional. A dietary survey was applied to 40 patients who had some thyroid patho- logy and who attended the Alfredo Noboa Hospital outpatient clinic in the city of Guaranda, Ecuador; on the consumption of goitrogenic foods, frequency of consumption. The largest number of patients with thyroid disease were women with a mean age of 45 years; the most frequent thyroid pathology was hypothyroidism, and higher TSH levels were rela- ted to the more frequent consumption of goitrogenic foods in the diet. There is a relationship between the consumption of goitrogens and the alteration between the levels of thyroid hormones, however, the results are not conclusive, studies are needed, with larger populations.
