Cultural Heritage, Memory, Citizenship, and Interculturality in Contexts of Violence and Resistance in Latin America
This call aims to compile a collection of academic works under the following conceptual coordinates: cultural heritage, memory, citizenship, and interculturality, which we will connect through various symbolic violences such as economic, patriarchal, criminal, and social violence. In this sense, priority is given to how these violences affect the right to culture, memory, and fundamentally, the right to have rights, following the Arendtian premise.
Therefore, following this approach, we propose three levels of analysis:
i. The first level invites reflection on globalization and the development of neoliberalism, considering how these phenomena impact cultural heritage at national and subnational levels, challenging the validity and relevance of cultural rights. In this scenario, national and local memories are redefined, as mass media play a key role in disseminating post-truths, undermining the symbolic value of cultural heritage associated with national identity, which strengthens and unites peoples and nations, turning it into a commodity subject to the laws of supply and demand in the free market.
ii. The second level proposes a national reflection on the relationship between cultural heritage, memory, cultural rights, and interculturality. In this context, cultural heritage regains its historical meaning and value by being defined by its symbolic importance to its political community rather than by the laws of supply and demand, questioning the instrumentalization of Latin America's cultural wealth as a commodity. At this level, we hope to highlight the resistance of peoples to preserve intangible heritage through interculturality.
iii. The third level focuses on the subnational, defined by the intersection of globalization and the local. Here, the specific context redefines the ideas that mark the symbolic value of cultural heritage, memory, and citizenship through the ethnic and cultural diversity of the communities that make up the subnational. In this scenario, violence will have a more significant impact on these symbolic structures, with de facto powers such as organized crime playing a more prominent role in redefining culture and the right to culture. In this sense, both material and intangible heritage will be exploited by various actors, including de facto powers, the state, extractive industries, organized crime, indigenous communities, and others.
This call is part of this debate, and we invite the scientific community to join this discussion with their proposals for publication, especially those addressing the cultural dimension of reality and its institutions. Reflecting on the connections, influences, and determining factors behind the objectification of cultural heritage and the redefinition of the memories of local, national, and transnational communities in an interconnected context deeply marked by violence, we believe that interculturality in globalization presents a possibility for resistance and recognition of human diversity. The deadline is May 1, 2025.
The thematic lines of the dossier are:
1. Cultural heritage, memory, and interculturality.
2. Globalization, cultural heritage, and neoliberalism.
3. Local actors of memory and cultural heritage.
4. Interculturality and local agents promoting the defense of cultural heritage.
5. Citizenship, local agents, memory, and cultural heritage.
6. Cultural violences.

Journal Sections
--Regular Appearance--
Articles
A specific, monographic investigation, preferably a partial or final result of research, highlighting reflective and critical argumentation on theoretical and/or practical, methodological and/or epistemological problems of the explored topic and area of study. Its length should not exceed 20 pages.
--Occasional Appearance--
Studies
An exhaustive, monographic investigation focused on one or several thematic areas treated inter- and/or transdisciplinarily, developed from an epistemological paradigm. Emphasis is placed on critical analysis and interpretation. Its length should not exceed 40 pages.
Notes and Current Debates
A relatively monographic collaboration presenting opinions and critical judgments about the problems and difficulties that research processes and their results may entail. Its length should not exceed 10 pages.
Bibliographic Reviews
A collaboration that updates the bibliographic current state, collecting the main results of national and international research in the form of individual or collective books. It highlights critical analysis at various levels (theoretical, methodological, epistemic, political, social, etc.), demonstrating the impact of the research. Its length should not exceed 5 pages. Published in the "Librarius" section.
Essays
An original and personal interpretation, dispensing with the rigor of a monograph, allowing an established researcher to present their theoretical positions on the current relevance and significance of forms of thought or paradigms in their discipline and related topics. Its length should not exceed 15 pages.
Interviews
A collaboration where a renowned thinker or researcher is questioned about the particularities of their research and the results it provides to the community of scholars in their field and related areas.
Interlocutions
The editorial profiles of this section are transversal across various disciplines of the social sciences, addressing relevant issues that, due to their novelty, require dissemination among international research networks. Its main objective is to publish discursive practices with another understanding of current social science problems from practical-instrumental perspectives based on emerging experiences that can transform, in their praxis, the subjective relationships of coexistence in public spaces. The interest and purpose are to humanize the lifeworld that sustains the rationality of the 21st century. The editorial line we work on in this section is called the dissemination service of Latin American scientific knowledge for the world. Its objective is to expand coverage in the dissemination of social sciences in general. This means addressing an unmet demand that could not be covered through the declared editorial profiles, but through these new editions, we achieve expansion, enabling the inclusion of authors from multiple countries.
